Peppino's Pizzeria: Authentic Italian Pizza and Sub Sandwiches in Athens, GA

I recently stopped by Peppino’s Pizzeria in Athens and had a solid, laid-back meal there. The place feels comfortable and unpretentious — simple setup, easy vibe, and just what you’d want when you’re in the mood for something casual and satisfying. What stood out was the friendly, down-to-earth service. Even when there were a fair number of people, staff managed things smoothly: ordering, getting food out — everything felt straightforward, without fuss. For what you pay and what you get, Peppino’s feels like good value. It’s the kind of spot where you don’t expect fine dining — you expect honest food, a relaxed atmosphere, and enough to leave you content. It’s not fancy — and I wouldn’t pick it for a special night out or fancy date — but for a low-key meal, some comfort food, or a no-pressure night with friends, Peppino’s works. If I'm in Athens and want something simple and reliable, I’d go back.

The pizza was very good, and the large Meat Lovers was enormous, worth it, considering it was $36. The sausage had a nice kick to it with great flavor. The interior is quaint and somewhere I’d enjoy sitting next time.

Delicious thin (Neapolitan)or thick crust (Sicilian) pizza. Large portions with plentiful toppings. Order at counter and grab it when it’s done. Definitely will Be back. Had the Peppino’s pizza and love it!

My wife and I drive by here weekly and have been for years. My other family members suggested we all eat here for lunch....now im regretting missing all the year I could have ate here! Its absolutely incredible. Best pizza in Athens. Be warned, the single slices are huge, the pizzas are huge! The philly cheesesteak sub could feed 50 people! The garlic bread was soo good! We'll definitely be coming back. Update: 3-8-26: well its now terrible....SIKE! Bahaha. No its still the best pizza in Athens hands down, bar none. If anyone tells you otherwise, they're probably the same people that take more than a penny from a take a penny tray.

Ok, this is REAL NY PIZZA. Best pizza I’ve ever had in the state of Georgia. I’m from NY/NJ and this mom and pop is the real deal. Well worth the short drive out of downtown. The decor is authentic nostalgic 1980s!!! A little tacky, old school, casual atmosphere. Only thing missing is Pac-man machine in the corner. Come give it a try, no matter where you hail from, you will NOT regret it!!!!

I grew up going to this Pizza joint, back when they were on broad street downtown. The food is insane out of this world. Today my Hub and I went there as soon as they opened. Their internet was down, couldn’t take a card, no problem we have cash, you overcharged us for $21 on the ticket. Immediately the owner was right there trying to right the wrong. So polite. Brought a beer to my husband on the house. This is literally my fave pizza joint. Always. We understand they were off kilter from the internet being down and not being able to accept cards for a bit. But the way the owner treated us after the pizza was wrong and they overcharged us for something we didn’t order, not the owners fault. He was very kind. I am SO happy that my fave pizza joint worked to keep us happy when we really didn’t mind the issues. Best Pizza. And Best Ever.

We were driving by and decided to stop in for a quick bite and let me tell you, the smells were amazing. I was so excited when we got the chicken Parmesan, but, it wasn’t as exciting as I’d hoped. The chicken was kind of chewy and tasted like it had been sitting in a cold place for a while—definitely not as fresh as I’d sniffed out. The staff was incredible, friendly and welcoming and the restaurant was the most cleaned including the bathroom. The cheese was good though, and I the sauce was “meh” about it, so I’m guessing they weren’t super impressed either. I would try the pizza.

My favorite place for pizza. It is excellent as take out and even better dine in. The garden salad is exactly what you’re looking for to pair with your pizza. I can’t wait to bring my family here!
